I'm not a math geek, just a general all-purpose geek. So could someone help me with something strange I just ran into?

Ramanujan's constant is an irrational number that is a very, very amazingly close approximation to an integer. (note, Ramanujan didn't discover this constant afaik. The name is something of a spoof)

Here's the formula and nice chunk of digits: =

However calculating this (using the exp function) on the bundled Mac Snow-Leopard scientific calculator set at 15 digits (max) gives: 2,625374126407658e+17:eek:

The red five shouldn't be there, right? I have no problem with the calculator not being able to take it out to more digits, but shouldn't the calcuated sequence be the same as far out as it goes? It's not the last digit either, i.e. something that might get rounded off.

Two other math sites confirm the version in the pic above (the second taking it out to 5000 digits):

http://www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/A060295

http://pi.lacim.uqam.ca/piDATA/ramanujan.txt
.26253741264076874399999999999925...*10^18

(the Mac calculator inserts the 5 between the green digits)

Is this an error in the mac calculator? Or in the intel processors?

Or am I just confused?

This is really bothering me.

The stromma folks have bar seats on their night cruise, but they look like indoor bar stools. Anybody know the best way to enjoy a COMFY cruise with a glass of wine on board a boat? Route is more or less irrelevant; doesn't even need to be a round trip necessarily. Not particularly interested in dinner absent some super glowing recommendation.

Thanks in advance.

If you are preparing for SAS B, you will need to read some literature: 1 play (Fröken Julie av August Strindberg) plus 3 novels. You must be prepared to discuss these books, their common themes, their epochs, etc.

I have the following for sale:
The play:
Fröken Julie in Swedish for 30kronor
Miss Julie (Fröken Julie) in English for 120 kronor

The novels:
Den allvarsamma leken av Hjälmar Söderberg in Swedish for 30 kronor
The Serious Game (Den allvarsamma leken) in English for 120 kronor
Barabbas by Lagerkvist in English for 90 kronor
En herrgårdsägen av Lagerlöf in Swedish for 30 kronor
Grabben i graven bredvid av Mazetti

My opinion:
Fröken Julie was cake at 53 pages of large text. I finished it in an afternoon. It was good enough that I will go see the play next time it is on at Kulturhuset. If I am not mistaken, this one is required for the SAS B test. It was the easiest so read it first.

Barabbas was my favorite. It was a very short book (144 pages) and I read it in about three days. Barabbas was the man whose life was spared when the crowd chose to release him from the death sentence, instead sending Jesus to the cross. It was an easy and enjoyable read and the main reason Lagerkvist won the Nobel Prize for literature. Read this one second.

En herrgårdsägen was quite short (111 pages) and an enjoyable read. As far as difficulty, I place it squarely in the middle between Barabbas and Den allvarsamma leken. The cover on this one has a slight wrinkle in it where it got folded back. Read this one third.

Den allvarsamma leken was the longest of the novels (221 pages) and the hardest to get through, but it is among the most popular chosen by SAS B students. It was a good book. I recommend this as the last read since it is the longest and has the most challenging writing style. Reading a chapter in Swedish, then a chapter in English really helped me to pick up the nuances better. Read this one last.

Grabben i graven bredvid I never finished because that was from a SAS B class I took two years ago in which I lost the motivation. It is a fairly short book (191 pages) and quite popular. They even made a movie of it, which I saw and it was okay for a chick-flick. Read this one only if your learning group is reading it or you don't read one of the other ones, but before Den allvarsamma leken.

I chose shorter books because, frankly, I did not have the time or inclination to wade through three 500-page tomes in Swedish.

If you want the collection, you can get it for 400kronor, plus shipping if you cannot pick them up. I will even include the notes I compiled about these books from the web (in English and Swedish). Those were quite helpful.

They are in good condition. I read them all, though, so they are not in NEW condition. Very close to new, I'd say.

CV

"För övrigt handlar det inte bara om barnvagnar. Ingenstans på jordklotet, och jag har varit här och var, har jag stött på så många människor som bara stöter till en eller går rakt in i en utan att yttra som mycket som ett "förlåt". Gud förbjude; det vore väl att erkänna att man märker sina medmänniskor. Om amerikanerna råkar stöta till en ute på stan, till och med på ett ställe som NY, blir det en flod av 'sorries'."
("Moreover, it is not just about strollers. Nowhere in the world, and I have been here and there, have I encountered so many people who just bump into others or walk straight into them without expressing so much as an 'excuse me'. God forbid that they take note of their fellow human beings. If Americans happen to bump into someone while out on the town, even in a place like NY, there's a flood of 'sorries'.")

Over the summer I started making mandalas. I ended up making a coloring book out of them which I've started selling: Mandala You! Book One. I'm about to start the process to get in on Amazon and out to distrubutors.

The book is great for kids or adults. I've made the mandalas easy enough for kids to enjoy (my six year-old loves them), yet nice enough for adults to want to do them. I really like to get some colored pencils and a mandala to color and a cup of tea and just relax for a while.

I'm going to donate some books to schools and old folks homes.

I've also colored them in and put them on t-shirts and mugs and whatnot on Zazzle and CafePress. Mandala You! on Zazzle and Mandala You! on CafePress

You can even join my facebook group: Mandala You! on fb

I'm going to wait a bit then do book two. I plan on doing a whole series.

So there you go. Buying my stuff will help out my daughter and I, as well as moving it higher on various search engines. If you belong to other talk forums or can fit me in your blog I always appreciate free advertising. Don't forget about my stuff when you need gifts! :)
